ANKARA - DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli stated that there is a need for a ceasefire in the Middle East and said: “The democratic administration in Rojava demonstrates a democratic autonomous understanding of how the peoples of the Middle East can live together.”

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli evaluated the developments on the agenda at a press conference in the Parliament. Commemorating historian and politician Tarık Ziya Ekinci, who passed away today, Temelli said: “We promise to continue Tarık Ziya Ekinci's struggle.”

'ISRAEL'S AGGRESSION MUST BE STOPPED'

Stating that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will make a speech at the General Assembly of the Parliament today, Temelli said that all states must fulfill their responsibilities to end the genocide in Palestine. Temelli said: “The attacks and occupation policies implemented by the state of Israel have recently turned into genocide. More than 40 thousand people have lost their lives. For this, global diplomacy really had to take action and the Israeli state had to stop this aggression.”

'PEACE WILL NOT COME UNLESS THE KURDISH ISSUE SOLVED'

Temelli continued as follows: “The Palestinian problem is a deep problem, one of the biggest problems in the Middle East. We know very well that as long as the Kurdish issue and the Palestinian problem are not solved, peace will not come to the Middle East, the peoples of the Middle East will not be at peace, but not only the peoples of the Middle East but also the world politics will not be stabilized. We have to stop this aggression. We are in solidarity with the Palestinian people, we are in contact with political parties against the developments in Israel. We convey our solution approach. We include these views in our policies in order to realize their expectations from us. Today's AKP government, on the other hand, continues its attitude towards the Middle East by feeding only on hamasas and trying to survive with hamasas. Because it knows that taking a genuine stance on the Israel-Palestine issue will actually shape your diplomacy in the Middle East as a whole. However, it is not possible to talk about Turkey's foreign policy in the Middle East or even in general. It is out of the question to talk about a politics of peace. This understanding, which feeds on the politics of war and instability, of course leads to an ambivalent approach when it comes to Israeli-Palestinian relations.

YOU SHED TEARS AND TRADE

You are against Israel, you are against genocide, you express it with all kinds of crocodile tears, but on the other hand you continue to trade. You pave the way for Azerbaijani gas to reach Israel. You have not taken any real measures or steps to stop the war. Why? Because the reason behind your approach to the Palestinian issue is your approach to the Kurdish issue. Your approach to the democratic solution of the Kurdish issue actually determines your entire Middle East policy.

DEMOCRATIZATION OF SYRIA

It is because of your insistence on the politics of war instead of a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue that the Middle East cannot stabilize. However, when we look at the Middle East in general, the whole world has now accepted that the solution to this issue lies in the solution of the Kurdish issue. Look, the war in Rojava is gradually drifting into another dimension. Israel's war after Gaza, its strategy of spreading the war to the region, and the issue of extending the war to Iran have led to the clashes in Deir ez-Zor. However, the region we call Rojava is, in fact, perhaps the peace crossroads of the Middle East in the future. It is perhaps the only peaceful environment in the Middle East today. It is an oasis of democracy. The democratic administration that the peoples in Rojava have jointly formed, that democratic administration, actually puts forward a democratic autonomous understanding of how the peoples of the Middle East can live together. The solution put forward there is a very important step towards the democratization of Syria and the peace in Syria.

ÊZIDÎ MASSACRE

Exactly 10 years ago, August 3rd was the anniversary of the Yazidi Massacre. Exactly 10 years ago, the Yazidis were subjected to genocide. Yes, more than 5 thousand Yazidis were massacred, 6 thousand 500 Yazidi women and children were abducted. 400,000 Yazidis were displaced and 300,000 of them have to live in tents in the Federated Kurdistan Region today. 100 thousand of them have spread to various countries around the world. Their right to live in the holy city of Shengal was taken away from them. Now Yazidis are returning to Shengal.

They are trying to create their own autonomous life in Shengal with their self-defense forces. Those who left them alone that day and fled from there are now opposing their self-defense forces. Those people were subjected to genocide because you left them there alone. And today, when we ask where are the 6,500 missing Yazidi women and children, we are informed that many of them are being held by ISIS in Turkey.

SOLUTION IN KIRKUK IS IMPORTANT

Another important recent development in the Middle East was the elections in Kirkuk. As a result of these elections, a compromise was reached. This is good news. Peoples can find a solution by compromising together and a solution could have been found in Kirkuk. The governor of Kirkuk will be Kurdish and the speaker of the parliament will be elected from the Arab people. Therefore, with the reconciliation of the Kurdish and Arab peoples and the participation of the majority of Turkmens there, the existing tension in Kirkuk was overcome. After the YNK won the elections, the people in Kirkuk came together based on the legitimacy of the election results against the understanding that ignored the elections. They produced a solution. This solution is very valuable and important. We believe that YNK President Talabani's inclusive approach will lead to important developments both in the Middle East, Kirkuk and other places in the coming period.

MIDDLE EAST NEEDS CEASEFIRE

Today, talks are being held in Turkey with those coming from Iraq under the title of security. When we look at these talks, we see that the understanding of war politics dominates these talks. We have already learned very well that wherever the word “security” is mentioned, it does not actually mean security, but insecuritization. The outcome of these talks is very likely to be talks that jeopardize the future of the popular will in Iraq, in Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah and Erbil. Our call is clear. We propose a total ceasefire for the entire Middle East.

Just as there are now ceasefire talks for Gaza, in fact the entire Middle East urgently needs a ceasefire. All weapons need to be silenced. Just as the will of the people in Kirkuk was reflected in the ballot box and a solution was produced, this solution can be produced in the entire geography of the Middle East, this is possible. It is peace diplomacy that can ensure this. Unfortunately, one of the most important obstacles to this is Turkey's foreign policy today. This policy must be abandoned as soon as possible.

SIGNIFICANT PART OF ECONOMY DEVOTED TO WAR

Today, a large part of Turkey's economy, a significant source of it, is devoted to the arms industry and war. Because of this, the Turkish economy is facing a new crisis every day. Those who said they would fight inflation have today opened the door to stagflation. Both inflation and unemployment continue to rise. The Ministers of Treasury and Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank continue to sell dreams to the public. The sole cause of the poverty of working people, pensioners, women and children is the chronic and diseased understanding of politics that this government continues to pursue. Without putting an end to this understanding of politics, without ensuring a politics of total peace, it will not be possible for Turkey to recover, neither in the economy nor in politics.

CAN ATALAY

Tomorrow we will hold a meeting for dear Can Atalay, we had made an application to the Presidency of the Parliament, and the Presidency of the Parliament did as required by the internal regulations. This meeting will take place tomorrow at 14:00 pm. I hope that there will be MPs within the AKP who will approach this issue within the boundaries of the law, the constitution and the bylaws, a meeting will be opened and then I hope that dear Can Atalay will be reinstated as an MP and his conviction will end. These are our expectations. As much as there is a possibility that these expectations will be realized, there is also a possibility that they will not be realized. The reason for the possibility of non-realization is this government and its approaches that do not recognize the constitution and the law.
