MÊRDÎN - Citizens who continue their vigil at the Qamishlo-Nusaybin border against the attacks pointed to the meeting with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and stated that the state must take steps.

The vigil launched at the Qamishlo border in Nusaybin district of Mêrdîn (Mardin) against the attacks of Turkey and affiliated Syrian National Army (SNA) agianst North and East Syria continues on its 21st day. Citizens at the vigil pointed to the meetings of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) MPs Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and stated that the state must take steps as soon as possible.

"Turkey is in a difficult situation due to the wars in the Middle East. Because the war in the Middle East is dangerous. Abdullah Öcalan emphasised that Turks should understand the situations in Gaza and Syria well. Otherwise, they will be in great danger. Turks need to read this process well. If it sits at the table with the Kurds, it will become a great power in the Middle East," said Mithat Kotan, one of the participants in the protest.

THE MESSAGE

Şükran Çelebi, who stated that they always have hopes for peace, called for the efforts to be seen and the state to take a step accordingly and said: "Because we are the side that thirsts for peace. Today we have been here for 20 days for Rojava and we hope that good things will happen. The Turkish state's peace rhetoric on the one hand and its attacks on Rojava with the appointment of trustees on the other hand undermine our belief in a new process. Therefore, the state needs to take a step first."

Rojhilat Çelik, who took part in the vigil, stated that the meeting with İmralı was promising and emphasised that peace must be achieved as soon as possible. "I am from Qamishlo in Rojava. I want peace for my people. We are very happy about the message given by Mr Abdullah Öcalan. We trust him to solve the problem. I am from Rojava and I live in Nisêbin. I am currently between Qamishlo and Nisêbîn. I hope that one day these borders will be lifted and I will have the opportunity to visit my family comfortably," he said.

'PEACE IS THE RIGHT THING'

Latif Aslan underlined that the right decision for the Kurdish and Turkish people would be peace and said: "We are the ones who are persecuted and oppressed, but peace is the right thing to do. Without this war, Turkey's economy would not be in this state. Our people are being killed for nothing. All Kurds would accept Mr Abdullah Öcalan's call for peace. Because he has said the right thing for Kurds and Turks. They have been persecuting and killing Kurds for centuries. If they stop this, Kurds will also stop. We have full confidence in our party. No one can deceive them. If there had been a solution in the previous period, so many of our people would not have been massacred. Today's hunger and poverty are the results of the ongoing war. This war must stop. This is what is right for Kurds and Turks."
