ISTANBUL - Speaking at the May Day cortege in Kadıköy, DEM Party Co-chair Tülay Hatimoğulları said, "It should be known that the contribution to the solution of the Kurdish question will be an increase in our wages, an increase in our food."
Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Co-chair Tülay Hatimoğulları made a statement at the May Day cortege in Kadıköy.
Stating that there is a deep economic crisis and poverty in Turkey, Tülay Hatimoğulları said that more than 35 thousand people lost their lives in labour murders during the AKP rule. "We demand the improvement of working life here. Work safety must be ensured and labour murders must end," she said.
Tülay Hatimoğulları referred to Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" and stressed: "If we can organise a democratic society, if we can achieve a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question, the way for the labour struggle will be paved. Against this capitalist system, this authoritarian regime, we can carry out both the labour struggle and the struggle for rights, law and justice on stronger grounds. Steps must be taken to solve the Kurdish problem. I call out to all my labourer brothers and sisters, the contribution to the solution of the Kurdish problem should be known that it will increase our wages, it will also increase our food. Therefore, let us never give up saying peace. Let's carry out our organised struggle together."
'NECESSARY STEPS MUST BE TAKEN'
Tülay Hatimoğulları emphasised that necessary steps must be taken after Abdullah Öcalan's call and added: "Political, parliamentary and legal grounds must be strengthened. The isolation on Mr Öcalan, which is vital for this process to come to life, must be lifted. Free working conditions must be created."
