NEWS CENTER – The appointment of trustees to DEM Party municipalities and political operations were protested in many cities, with protesters chanting, “Neither kayyıms (trustees) nor political coups will prevail over the people.”
The appointment of kayyıms to municipalities of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party on 4 November 2024 and the ‘political coup’ were protested in many cities.
Following statements made in the cities of Mêrdîn (Mardin), Meletî (Malatya), Agirî (Ağrı), Mûş (Muş), Antalya, Êlih (Batman) and Sêrt, sit-ins were held in some cities.
The statements emphasised that the Kurdish people have been fighting these policies for centuries. They pointed out that all the cases cited as justification for the trustee appointments have been proven to be unjust over time, and reminded that the appointments were arbitrary and unlawful.
In statements made in some cities, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling on Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş and other detainees imprisoned in connection with the Kobani case against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) was recalled, and a call was made for the release of political prisoners.
The resolution process that began in Turkey on 27 February with Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan's ‘Call for Peace and a Democratic Society’ was recalled, and it was stated that such unlawful practices are damaging the process.
