ANKARA - Emphasizing that war and poverty will continue as long as there is isolation, Peace Mothers called everyone to take action.

The isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in İmralı High Security F Type Closed Prison for nearly 23 years, is spreading to all prisons day by day.

Violations in prisons extended to the death of 7 detainees in the last month.

Members of the Ankara Peace Mothers Council also called for these violations to be lifted, stating that they were caused by isolation. Mothers also called for support for the ongoing Justice Watch in Van and Diyarbakır.

'GREAT OPPRESSION'

Noting that the state is trying to annihilate the Kurds with isolation, Peace Mother Kadriye Ozgan said, “There has been an isolation on Öcalan for years, he is not allowed to meet with his family and lawyers. We do not know if he is in good health. This injustice is unacceptable.”

Noting that sick prisoners are also in isolation in prisons, Ozgan said, "Aysel Tuğluk is not in good health, but she is not released. They are doing this torture because they are Kurds. There is great cruelty on our children, our people, our representatives.” Stating that the isolation has spread abroad, but no pressure can turn them away from the struggle, Ozgan reminded the situation of the detainees whose release was postponed.

'LET ME MEET WITH ÖCALAN'

Pointing out that there will be war and poverty as long as there is isolation, Peace Mother Münibe Koç said, “As mothers of peace, we have wanted the isolation to be lifted for years. It is unlawfulness to the detainees, isolation is death. Let the sick prisoners be released as soon as possible. What are they aiming at by keeping Öcalan in isolation? However, if a meeting with Öcalan is made, the war will end and people will not die. Neither soldier nor guerrilla will die. Within a week, many funerals came out of the prisons. We don't want funerals to go to mothers anymore. Let them be delivered safely, get their treatment outside, let the sick prisoners be released as soon as possible.”

KURDISH PROHIBITED

Calling everyone to take to the streets against the isolation, Koç said, “We are also in isolation outside. While my mother was going to prison in the 90s, my brother was beaten for speaking Kurdish. Even our funerals in prisons are kidnapped by the police. We must not allow this, we must protect it. We have to go to the squares and the streets. After this time, it is not possible to sit at home. I send my love to the mothers who are on the watch for justice in Amed and Van, their struggle is our struggle.”
