WAN – Preparations continue for the rally titled "Not Isolation, Freedom Will Win" to be held in Wan (Van). Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party MP Saliha Aydeniz stated their goal is to socialize the peace process and called for broad participation.
The Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA), and DEM Party will organize the rally on August 23 at Musa Anter Park. Speakers include DEM Party Co-chair Tuncer Bakırhan, DBP Co-chair Keskin Bayındır, and TJA member Gültan Kışanak.
The event will start at 17:00, featuring performances by artists Xecê and Aylin Demirkaya. Hundreds of people, including MPs, party co-chairs, municipal leaders, and civil society representatives, are working district by district, street by street to prepare.
‘THE RALLY IS IMPORTANT IN EVERY RESPECT’
MP Saliha Aydeniz emphasized the rally’s significance: “This rally in Wan is very important in all aspects. The Peace and Democratic Society Call must become socialized. It will be a crucial gathering for peace, democracy, and freedoms. Power holders and the nation-state mentality always ignore peoples, beliefs, youth, and women to maintain their systems. The current situation in the Middle East stems from this 100-year-old nation-state conflict. In such a bloody period, the democratic nation model and Peace and Democratic Society Call presented by Abdullah Öcalan must be owned by society. The community must organize to build the future on this foundation. All our meetings aim to socialize this process.”
‘LET’S SHOW HOW STRONG WE ARE’
Saliha Aydeniz added: “Everyone must embrace peace. The more we organize and show our commitment to this process, the more we can make peace and freedom permanent. Otherwise, the nation-state system will sustain itself through wars. Therefore, rallies and gatherings are important. We need to show the world how strong and united we are. The August 23 rally embodies this meaning. We invite all our people to attend. Together, we will be the owners and organizers of the socialized peace.”
‘THE PEOPLE WILL SHOW THEIR OWNERSHIP OF THE CALL’
DBP Wan Co-chair Cemal Demir said: “The rally is very important for us because we will see how the people interpret and embrace the process. So far, our efforts have shown strong public ownership. Our people have endured extraordinary conditions and suffered greatly in a dirty war over the last 50 years. That’s why the people want peace. Mr. Öcalan made a historic call, and the people responded positively. To strengthen this further, we await everyone at the rally.”
