Reactions against the arrest of IBB Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu continued in many cities throughout the night. While many people were detained, police violence was reflected on the cameras.
Politicians and trade union representatives who participated in the Amed Newroz emphasised that the call of Abdullah Öcalan was clearly embraced in the Newroz area and said, "Therefore, the government cannot ignore the call."
Several journalists were detained during house raids in Istanbul.
Speaking at Adana Newroz, DEM Party Co-chair Tulay Hatimogullari emphasised that struggle agianst oppression is a right and said, "Our path is the path of peace and solution."
The Ministry of Interior announced that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık were suspended from office and a trustee was appointed to Şişli Municipality.
After the Newroz celebration in Istanbul was attended by hundreds of thousands of people, the crowd marched with the slogan "Bijî Serok Apo" and left the area.
In Newroz celebrations held in many cities, the demand for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan came to the fore. In addition, Ekrem Imamoglu's arrest was met with reaction.
"Kurdish people will see the freedom of Mr Abdullah Öcalan. We will gift this freedom to our mothers" said DBP Co-chair Keskin Bayındır in Adana Newroz.
Speaking at the Istanbul Newroz, DEM Party Co-chair Tuncer Bakırhan reacted to the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu and said, "Mr Öcalan's call is a chance for Turkey. Do not waste this opportunity with judicial conspiracies and trustees."
Speaking at the Dîlok Newroz, DBP Co-chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar reacted to Mansur Yavaş's remarks and said, "He is speaking against the struggle for freedom. We will not let the values of the Kurdish people be spoken against."
Speaking at the Istanbul Newroz, Gultan Kisanak said, "Mr Öcalan made a very important call for a Kurdish-Turkish alliance. Now it is time for Ankara to take a step."
Speaking at the Istanbul Newroz, HDK Co-spokesperson Ali Kenanoglu described the arrest to Ekrem Imamogly as a "coup against the will of the people".
At the Istanbul Newroz, Abdullah Öcalan's Newroz comments were played in his own voice to hundreds of thousands.
Reacting to the arrest of Ekrem Imamogly, DBP said, "The dependent judiciary must immediately step back from this decision and the attacks against the will of the people must be abandoned."
